3, Tower of Babel construction 

    and human dispersion(Gn.11:1-9) 

 1) Redemption history

 Verses 1-9 refer to the famous Tower of Babel architectural article that humans had built up to escape from God (vv. 1-4). God's punishment confused the unified language up to that time and recorded the scattering of mankind all over the earth (vv. 5-9). And middle verses 10-26 will praise the Lord God of Noah's son, who was blessed (Gn.9:26). The genealogy of Shem's descendants suggests that there will be a figure leading them among them. Finally, the latter part of verses 27-32 goes further and reveals in more detail the household of Abram, God's chosen ancestor of the nation of Israel.
  God first distinguished Shem's descendants from among mankind for the redemption of mankind through the “ descendant of women” (3:15), the Messiah, Christ, and the building of the kingdom of God, and then again distinguished Terah's family from the descendants of Shem. He finally chose Abram from Terah's family. The purpose of God's choice of Abram is to form the elected Israel through him first and then to spread the will of God to all the world through Israel.

Tower of Babel and Congestion of Languages

  Indeed, human beings who had experienced the Flood event, God's supernatural judgment on fallen man, deserved obedience to God, realizing that they were insignificant. Nevertheless, mankind once again rejected God when it prospered rapidly and lived a stable life.
  The construction of a gigantic tower on the Babylonian plain of Shinar was carried out (vv. 1-4). However, this building of the Tower of Babel by humans stems from a false ambition to ignore God's authority and challenge God, the result of pride and vanity. As a result, God disciplined and confused the language of humans who originally used one language, which caused them to stop building the Tower of Babel and scatter it all over the world (vv. 5-9).

1) Why they wanted the tower 

  to reach the sky?

  Gn.11:4 Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth."
  Their intention to reach the top of the tower to the sky shows that human pride is endless
  Mt.11:23 And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths. If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.

 A) It was for their names.

  The first purpose of building a tower ; They built up a tower captivated by a desire to gain fame. And their ambition was naturally linked to a challenge to God. Thus he who is captivated in his honor rather than the holy name of God is always in danger of sinning against God.

 B) not be scattered 

 Gn.1:28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.
   Building a tower was the second purpose to not be scatterd  : God wanted and commanded mankind to multiply and fill all the earth God created from the time of human creation. The Tower of Babel's desire to avoid scattering is also seen in Acts.
  Jesus died on the cross to save mankind, and as he said, rose to life in three days and became the firstfruits of the resurrection. Because the gospel of salvation wanted to reach the ends of the earth, he commanded his disciples directly. Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the Holy Spirit of the Father's promise,  But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."(행1:8). But when he did not leave Jerusalem after the Holy Spirit came, on that day, there was great persecution in the church in Jerusalem, and he showed us a marvelous work scattering all the land of Judea and Samaria (Acts 8: 1).

 C) For speaking the same language

  Gn.11:6 The LORD said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.
  Building a tower was an important factor that allowed the group to have a common sense. but God confused the language so that they could not understand one another. The confusion of ideas or wills resulting from the destruction of inner unity may have led to the use of different languages.
  Gn.11:7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other."
  Gn.11:8 So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.
